Will my rug fit my machine?

Every washer has a recommended load capacity. Here is how to check that your rug fits yours.

    Look for a paper sticker or a metal plate on your washer. See where to look.

    Search the model number online to see its load capacity in cubic feet.

These are the minimum washer sizes for front load machines and top load machines with an agitator. If your top load machine has no agitator, subtract 0.4 cu. ft. from the sizes above.

Find your washing machine's model number

Front load washer

  1. Inside the door
  2. On the door frame
  3. On the front of the machine
  4. On either side of the machine
  5. On the back of the machine

Top load washer

  1. Under the lid: on the frame, at the back of the tub opening, or on the lid itself
  2. On the control panel
  3. On the front or back of the machine
  4. On an inside wall
  5. On either side of the machine

Washer and dryer combo

  1. At the top of the front of the unit
  2. Inside the dryer door
  3. On the door frame
  4. Under the washer lid (inside the door on front load washers)
  5. On either side of the unit, near the base

The model number

It is usually printed on a paper sticker or a metal plate. Note every number and letter listed next to the model number.

My top load washer has no agitator. Does the chart change?

Yes. The chart shows minimum sizes for front load machines and top load machines with an agitator. If your top load machine has no agitator, subtract 0.4 cu. ft. from the sizes in the chart.

Which sizes fit the smallest washers?

Runners, doormats and rugs in 3x5, 4x6 and 5x7 fit washers from 2.2 cu. ft. Rugs in 6x9, 8x10 and 9x12 need a washer of at least 3.8 cu. ft.
