Black Rugs

A large solid black rug can feel heavy in a small room. A black and cream pattern, or a black rug in a room with light walls and furniture, keeps the space open while still adding contrast.

Cream, white, grey, wood tones and metallic finishes all work. For a bold look, repeat black in a lamp or picture frame so the rug feels part of the room.

They work well in living rooms, entryways, dining rooms and home offices, where the dark colour grounds the furniture and hides little marks between cleaning.

Choose a size that lets at least the front legs of your sofa and chairs rest on the rug, usually an 8x10 or 9x12 in a living room. Size names are rounded, so check the actual size shown under Size on each rug.

A solid black rug shows light dust and lint more than a mid tone. A pattern or a black and cream design is more forgiving, and regular vacuuming keeps any rug looking its best.
