How to choose a bedroom rug
Start with the bed. A rug under the lower two thirds of the bed, with room to step onto it on both sides, makes the bedroom feel finished. Size names are rounded, so check the actual size shown under Size on each rug.
What size rug goes under a bed?
For a queen bed choose an 8x10, for a king bed a 9x12 or an 8x10 in a smaller room, for a full bed a 6x9 and for a twin bed a 5x8. Leave about 18 to 24 inches of rug past the sides and foot of the bed. See our guide to the best rugs for under the bed and what size rug for a king bed, or browse by bed size: twin, full, queen and king bed rugs, or 8x10 rugs and 6x9 rugs.
Which colour suits a bedroom?
Cream, beige and grey give a calm bedroom, and a blue or green pattern adds colour without crowding the room. Pick one colour from your bedding and repeat it in the rug. Our bedroom rug guide has more ideas.
Do I need a rug pad?
A rug pad keeps the rug from sliding and adds cushion underfoot.
Frequently asked questions
What size rug goes under a queen bed?
An 8x10 is the usual choice, with room to step onto the rug on both sides and at the foot. A 6x9 under the lower two thirds of the bed also works. Size names are rounded, so check the actual size shown under Size on each rug.
What size rug goes under a king bed?
A 9x12 is the usual choice, and an 8x10 fits a smaller room. Leave about 24 inches of rug past the sides and foot of the bed.
How far should a bedroom rug extend past the bed?
About 18 to 24 inches past the sides and foot of the bed, so your feet land on the rug when you get up. Place it under the lower two thirds of the bed.
What colour rug suits a bedroom?
Cream, beige and grey make a calm bedroom, and a blue or green pattern adds colour without crowding the room. Pick a colour from your bedding and repeat it in the rug.
Do I need a rug pad under a bedroom rug?
Yes. A pad keeps a bedroom rug from sliding as you step out of bed, holds the corners flat and adds cushion where your feet land. Choose a pad about 1 inch smaller than the rug on every side so the edges stay hidden; the sizes are listed in our rug pad collection.
Where can I find shipping and returns details?
